Anansi
What is your super-power and what are your quirks and short-comings? Don’t we all have BOTH and isn’t it perfectly natural and OK to have BOTH? That is one of the underlying messages in this wonderfully funny and adventurous Ananse tale.
Ananse is a trickster character from West Africa. His entertaining stories traveled with slaves to Jamaica, the US and other countries, and gave them heart and courage in hard times. While Ananse can be rather foolish, his tales have deep wisdom in them for each listener. I explain ‘Ananse, Ahso and their Six Clever Children’ in this video, a tale that celebrates diversity. My telling was very much inspired by US teller Len Cabral’s version.
